Certainly, one very effective way the agency shows its dedication to helping the Filipino people is by providing free medical and dental care to those in need.
In the beginning, the PCSO Charity Clinic served its staff, accepted referrals, and walk-in patients. But now, the clinic’s reach has expanded to help communities in Metro Manila that are struggling, all the way to places like Sorsogon in the South and Isabela in the North. They carried out twenty-six outreach missions during the first year of the program. As of 2001, around 117,001 patients got medical help, and 28,292 people received dental care through these efforts.
The Out-Patient Clinic Department of PCSO operates from Monday to Friday, serving thousands of patients in need at the PCSO Dental and Clinic Department in Quezon City. This clinic provides free consultations, minor surgeries, ambulance services, emergency care, and referrals. It also takes on community projects for Maternal and Child Health and Primary Health Care. Up until 2001, around 36,911 medical patients and 18,965 dental patients received care through this initiative.
When Mount Pinatubo erupted, the PCSO gave direct assistance amounting to ₱400 million to victims and supported programs related to the disaster. They also provided financial help to families affected by the Ormoc disaster and the Iloilo fire disaster. Additionally, they offered aid to families affected by the Ozone fire tragedy in 1996, where many students were hurt or lost their lives. The total assistance for this incident reached over ₱6 million pesos.
The PCSO’s support started with just two beneficiaries, but it has grown significantly. They now help more than 8,000 beneficiaries, including organizations like the Red Cross, Blood Bank, Boys’ Town, and various health clinics and hospitals.
